Day 1 // Fairview Heights, IL
Daydream about DC surrounded in pink blooms as we begin our adventure!
Day 2 // Louisville, KY
Welcome to Kentucky, home of Bourbon, the Louisville Slugger, bluegrass and equestrian excellence. A hearty, home style lunch awaits at the Derby Cafe. This afternoon, learn about the history of the derby and American Thoroughbred horse racing at the Kentucky Derby Museum.
Day 3 // Lexington, VA
Enter the Old Dominion today. Virginia has a proud history, and we will be exploring its past over the next several days. Overnight in Lexington, nestled in the green hills of western Virginia.
Day 4 // Richmond, VA
Delve into the world of Thomas Jefferson this morning. A truly Renaissance man, Jefferson built Monticello as a place where he could explore his interests, from horticulture to foreign languages to architecture. It stands as a monument to his ingenuity. Continue to Michie Tavern, opened in 1784 and still hosting visitors. It contains pre-Revolutionary furniture and artifacts belonging to the original owners, making this a memorable dining experience. Our afternoon will be spent in Richmond, the former capital of the Confederacy. Visit the White House of the Confederacy, a National Historic Landmark that has been carefully restored to its wartime elegance as Jefferson Davis's executive mansion.
Day 5 // Richmond, VA
The so-called Historic Triangle in southern Virginia is one of the most influential areas of our nation's early history. Start this morning in Jamestown, the first permanent English settlement in the New World. Then, visit the colonial capital of Williamsburg, which is frozen in time with costumed interpreters and beautiful buildings such as the Governor's Palace and the Capitol Building. The most recognized living history museum in the nation, Colonial Williamsburg, sets the standard for interpreting colonial times.
Day 6 // Alexandria, VA
Start the morning with a tour of Mount Vernon. Visit the historic home of America's first president and enjoy an included lunch. Then we'll take off for a city tour of Washington DC, which will give us an overview of the city's layout and an opportunity to see its many famous landmarks. Then, use your free time to explore attractions and historical sites throughout the city.
Day 7 // Alexandria, VA
High on a hill overlooking the capital sits Arlington National Cemetery. We will have a tour of the cemetery this morning, complete with a stop at the eternal flame accompanying John F. Kennedy's grave site and the inspiring Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Spend the afternoon exploring the Smithsonian Institute's many museums on the mall such as the Air and Space Museum, the Natural History Museum with the Hope Diamond, or the National Museum of American History. Dinner tonight.
Day 8 // Pittsburgh, PA
Enjoy a delicious lunch on our way to Pennsylvania. Learn the story of one man's entrepreneurial spirit and how his products became known across the world at the Heinz History Museum. We'll get 57 servings of information, as we explore artifacts and learn about the evolution of the famous brand's products.
Day 9 // Columbus, OH
This morning, witness a model of American entrepreneurship at 5B's Embroidery, which started in a basement 30 years ago and is now one of the largest contract embroidery corporations in the country. Ever wonder how the ball gets in a whistle? Find out at the American Whistle Factory this afternoon. Dinner will be included tonight!
Day 10 // Arnold, MO
Take a tour of the beautiful 10,000 sq.ft. Victorian family home of President Benjamin Harrison – our country's 23rd US President before stopping for our final hotel stay in Missouri.
Day 11 // Home
Our spring adventure has come to an end! Return home after days of being surrounded by beautiful blossoms.
